Duties

Primary responsibilities are to proactively sell tournaments, invitationals, and outings to authorized clients. Duties include prospecting for new business, both in person and via the internet and telephone. Engages in business activities that generate potential clients and promote the Golf Course and MCCS, for Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow. Responsibilities include attending chamber meetings, industry specific association events, hosting client site visits, making outside sales calls to potential clients, telephone selling, internet selling, and attending business networking events in the community. Organizes and books golf tournaments for military personnel, DOD, and civilians. Oversees tournament logistics and works with venue staff in organizing tournament details. Liaise between tournament committees Golf Operations Management and Food and Beverage Manager where applicable). Follows up with previous and new tournament leads. Develops new leads through (but not limited to) military personnel, business mixers, social media, Meetup groups, and local volunteer organizations. Coordinates call back program in order to regenerate lost business. Improves tournament incentive program and maintains its currency within local competition. Explains services offered, i.e., course opportunities, sponsorship, menu, entertainment, etc. Prepares client correspondence and events contracts and obtains client signatures on contracts.

Conducts costing and profitability analysis prior to booking to ensure events meet business requirements. Coordinates advance deposits or approved credit from all clients. Maintains catering software database with all current account and client information, events and bookings data and history of sales activities for the account, client, and specific events. Communicates thoroughly when handing over client to MCCS staff for administrative and detailing duties prior to the event. Represents MCCS in business networking events on installation and off–installation as needed. May plan command sponsored events within the facility such as command functions, golf tournaments, non-federal entity events, golf outings and special events., May coordinate food and beverage needs with appropriate food and beverage management by preparing banquet event orders (BEOs). Follows-up with client evaluation of services rendered.

Establishes and maintains direct contact with the Food and Beverage (F&B) Manager who acts as the primary point person for all F&B related events at the golf course. Knowledgeable with catering reservation system; golf reservation system; point of sale system and understand the process for booking events; assist with coordinating base access procedures; Address and resolve internal and external customer concerns which includes promptly notifying the immediate supervisor. Assists with marketing planning and serves as a liaison for advertising and promotion. Coordinates with social media and digital advertising, along with sponsorship to further increase exposure of the MMGC to base personnel and civilians.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the Head Professional. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Qualifications

Three years’ experience in sales, special events, golf tournaments and sports outings or appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above, . Ability to coordinate with various workstations to satisfy customer catering and events requirements. Skills to assist customers in planning delivery of services. Ability to prepare reports and complete simple contractual arrangements. Must be able to work well with golf operating software systems, catering software, point of sale software and online tee time management. The candidate for the position must have excellent interpersonal skills and possess a positive attitude at all times. A strong professional demeanor, loyalty, and a good work ethic are required. Skill to operate cash register and handle large sums of money accurately is a must. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 45 lbs. may be required.
